Bay State Design Shop: A New England Brew
One of 28 submissions for the Bay State Design Shop’s A New England Brew charity poster show. All proceeds from the poster show were donated to Artists for Humanity, a local Boston organization whose mission is to provide under-resourced urban youth with the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in art and design.
While researching ideas for the poster, I found a source online that detailed how brewing was originally a women-dominated field, and how Ye Alewifes Of Olde used to dress in ways that eventually became associated with the stereotypical witch. I combined these ideas with the design of a tarot deck, choosing to bring attention to brewing’s women-dominated roots with the caring and supportive nature of the Queen of Cups card.
This design was also printed onto Backlash Beer Co’s beer can labels as part of Backlash 28, a limited edition collaborative run with BSDS.
